Test and Grades
I have enjoyed the colors this fall so much I decided to add some color to the blog and change it up a bit. I hope you are all enjoying them despite the not so nice weather.
Friday I sent home a test with each student. The test covers everything we have talked about the first 6 weeks. We had an extensive review in class. If there are questions please let me know. Each test is in a sealed small envelope within a larger envelope. The idea is to send the test back in the sealed larger envelope. The test is 50 questions and I explained to the students why this is a good thing:)
Homework for the week:
Monday: review for test
Tuesday: TEST DAY
Wednesday & Thursday: Final draft for Lord Kelvin paper
(again this is suggestion only and you can complete everything in the time you would prefer)
Last but not least---grades. I decided on not sending them home but will send them via email. I would appreciate the direct communication from parents upon receiving them and asking questions if they arise.
Thank you for the opportunity to work in each of your student's life. I enjoy them.

1/2 way done!!
Hey Guys-
I can't believe we are half way through this semester. With that comes grades and a test. I will send home grades and a test for the first half of the semester tomorrow.
Crazy week here. Hope you all are staying healthy and strong!!!
I am having problems downloading the pictures-sorry:(
Tomorrow be prepared for some review.
The quiz will cover Newton's 3 laws of motion. Be familiar with each law.
See you tomorrow,
Mrs. Tyler

Homework
I will post pictures tonight.
Classs Re-cap:
We went over the acceleration worksheet. Great work by the students!! We introduced Newton's 3rd law (every action there is an equal and opposite reaction). Momentum is a new word we discussed in this hour. Momentum= mass x velocity. After class lecture time we split up into groups to build lego cars. The kids were challenged to build a car that could move showing action/reaction principle. There were a few successes using balloons attached to the cars. Great time and some great creations!!
Homework:
Mon/Tues: Rough draft for Lord Kelvin paper
Wed: Describe a real life example of Newton's third law.
Thur: Challenge question??? Which has more momentum a elephant walking or a bullet
shot out of a gun???
My suggestion for this question would be to research online how fast a typical elephant walks and how much a typical elephant weighs (kg) multiply these two figures.
The same thing for a bullet; research how fast a typical bullet goes after being shot out of a gun (try to use the same units as speed for the elephant) and how much a typical bullet weighs (kg). Again multiply.
I understand there are many different guns. Choose any gun/bullet combination you like and get the information from this.
Good Luck and I can't wait to see what your research proves!!!

3rd LAW
Newton's Third Law tomorrow!!!
Bring your calculator if you have one.
Quiz-study our formulas (speed, acceleration, and Force)
SEE YOU TOMORROW:-)

AWWWWWW!! Acceleration
Hope you all had a great weekend!!
Our focus on Friday was acceleration. The kids minds were stretched as we figured out how to calculate this awesome idea. We discussed gravity. Have your kids show you that gravity is independent of weight. {Book dropped and crumpled paper}.
Newton's second law was introduced F=m x a [Newton is the unit]. We also did some calculations of this formula.
HOMEWORK:
Mon/Tues: research 2nd 1/2 of Lord Kelvin's life
Wednesday: Acceleration Worksheet {#5 is Extra credit!!, remember to include units}
[Do your best-if you are stumped skip it and we will discuss in class]
Thursday: Vocabulary {deceleration, distance-couple of hints:-)}
Great work! Keep up the hard work.

Newton's Second Law of Motion
"This most beautiful system (the Universe) could only proceed
from the dominion of an intelligent and powerful being."
Sir Isaac Newton
Enjoy the sunshine today and the maker of it!!
In class tomorrow we will go over the homework. We will introduce acceleration and figure out how to calculate it.
Newton's second law of motion is calculating force. We will learn the formula and experiment with FORCE!
And last but not least. . . the quiz. Awesome scores last week!! Be familiar with Newton's first law, inertia, calculating speed (remembering units) and some interesting facts on Lord Kelvin.
See you tomorrow!-Mrs. Tyler

homework
Sorry. . . forgot the camera again!!!
In class this week we completed a lab calculating the speed of a matchbox car. I believe this helped to clarify this concept for everyone. We then discussed Newton's first law of motion-INERTIA. We were able to break up into five stations and try different situations that show inertia-after a rousing game of red light, green light:) [have your student explain why we played this game!!]
Homework for this week:
Monday and Tuesday: Research the 1st 1/2 of Lord Kelvin's life
Wednesday: Complete worksheet page 24
Thursday: Write down an example of inertia on the back of worksheet pg 24
Please keep the comments coming. I enjoy your response!

matchbox cars
Hey Guys!
Hope you are having a great cool week. Fall has definitely arrived.
Bring a matchbox type of car to class on Friday (if you have one). DO NOT GO OUT AND PURCHASE ONE!!!!!
We will be testing the speed and force of one of these. Calculators are also a great idea!!!!
Remember the wonderful quiz-formulas speed velocity and acceleration. Also be familiar with metric units of measure vs. english units of measure.
See you tomorrow-
