Thanks for the prayers! It was a good time to be with family.
Now to the homework:
Monday: Enjoy the warmer weather!!
Tuesday: Define acid, base and pH scale. Give 5 examples of an acid and 5 examples of a base found in your house.
Wednesday: On Friday we reacted sugar with sulfuric acid in order to extract the carbon from the sugar.
1. Was this an exothermic reaction or an endothermic reaction?
2. What is the difference between the two?
3. If you wanted to develop a product for warming people's hands at outdoor winter events would you choose and exothermic reaction or an endothermic reaction to use? Why?
Thursday: Study for the quiz. Complete the following two labs. Record your results on paper and we will discuss in class.
Baking soda and baking powder: What's the difference?
1. Place a teaspoon of baking soda and baking powder in separate cups.
2. Add a tablespoon of water to each. Observe. Which substance fizzes?
3. Add a few drops of vinegar to the substance that did not fizz. Observe.
Coagulation of Milk
1. Fill a cup halfway with milk.
2. Add to the mild a half-cup of vinegar.
3. Slowly pour into another cup to observe. Record your results.
Thanks guys for your patience. If you would please keep my son in your prayers tomorrow (Tuesday) he is having tonsils, adenoids removed and ear tubes in [Shelby I know you can relate:)] Have a great week!!
we will also pray for your son (which one?)that it goes well and he is brave like I'm sure he will be!

On the Coagulation of Milk, step two, you did mean to add the vinegar to the milk, not the mild, right?

Harrison and everyone else sorry for the typo!!
ReplyDeleteMH-if you use soy milk try that, cream etc. if not you can purchase a small milk -if you are opposed to that don't worry about it.
Ummm... I can't figure out if the sugar thing we did friday was endo or exothermic
ReplyDeletePlease help?

For you with the exothermic problem, try www.dictionary.com. It worked great for me.
ReplyDeletei got the endothermic and exothermic fine.
ReplyDeletebut i still get the two mixed up!
:p
I remember it this way...
ReplyDeleteThe exothermic expels heat, and the endothermic doesn't.
