Homework:
Monday: Design an experiment with the following question-
Which type of sugar will dissolve the fastest in water : powdered, granulated or cubed?
Remember the steps to the scientific method?
problem/question
research
hypothesis
experiment
organize/analyze data
conclusion
I would like you to complete the 1st 4 steps without actually doing the experiment at home. We will complete the experiment in class. I would like you to state the question (already given to you), research (if needed), state your hypothesis (in a complete sentence), and design the experiment. In designing the experiment remember to list the control, constant, independent variable and dependent variable (reach into your brains from the beginning of 1st semester)
Tuesday: Next week we are going to discuss solutions. I would like you to define the following words for me: desalination, saturated solution, solution, solubility, solute, solvent, unsaturated solution
Wednesday: Next week we are going to discuss solutions. The world's largest solution is -THE OCEAN!! I would like you to research what is in the ocean. List six elements that are found in the ocean water and give the percentage of each (wikipedia had a great resource for this).
Thursday: Try to balance a couple of the chemical formulas from the worksheet I gave you. If you are stumped don't worry we will work on this in class. Figure out as many as you can. [This is the worksheet I gave you and said it wouldn't be homework:)] I do not want to introduce anything else new so try this worksheet-if it overwhelms you please just study for the quiz (we will quiz over the homework you did!!)
CLASS RECAP: We were able to finish our lab work!!! I attempted an experiment outside which flopped-will try again next week!! Completed a couple of balancing equations took a quiz and collected tests and homework. Time flies when your having fun!!
Have a wonderful sunny day-Mrs. Tyler
Mrs. Tyler would we use warm water or cold water?
ReplyDeleteRAL
yea warm or cold or boiling or cubed or luke warm or cool or freezing or hot WAT KIND?
ReplyDeletemadison
so are we supposed to do the experiment or not? You said to do step 4, but you also said we would experiment in class so we're confused!
ReplyDeleteMEg and Isaac
we do nt have to the experiment.
ReplyDeleteI don't get it.
ReplyDeleteOkay Guys-
ReplyDeleteDo not do the experiment. What you are doing is setting up the experiment on paper we will actually do it in class. Water would obviously need to be the same for each experimen with sugar right? If you had different temperature it would effect the results. So water would be control or constant???? That is what you are supposed put on the paper. Do your best look in your notes from the first of last semester when we began physics. Do your best-TRY you can do it!!
Mrs. Tyler I am going to try to get your email but I have a play this Friday and cant come to FA
ReplyDeleteMadison
im not coming fri

Mrs. Tyler,
ReplyDeleteI am searching on wikipedia for the elements that make up the ocean, and I can't find anything that I am looking for...what did you type in the wikipedia search engine?
Kaitlyn D.
Never mind i found it! :]

Hi Shannon, Wish we were a part of your science class on Fridays! It sounds like so much fun. Donny is in 8th grade and he just finished studying outer space and is now learning about the atmosphere...clouds and such. We love you all. We are enjoying some springy weather this week too. Sunshine, pink blossoms, daffodils, baby lambs, etc. etc.. Aunt Bonnie
