Physical Science:
This week went by fast. We were only able to complete one of the experiments that they prepped for. Weather was not right for the first one and we ran out of time for the second. In the first experiment the students tested the concept of sweat cooling off our bodies. We then had a discussion of Module #2 which introduces concepts for greenhouse effect and global warming.
HOMEWORK:
Monday- read pgs. 36-42. Complete Study Guide (pg. 55) # 1 a-e, 2-4
Tuesday - read pgs. 43-51 Complete Study Guide (pg. 55) #5-10
Wednesday - Complete Study Guide (pg. 55) # 11-13, 16-20
Thursday - Draw a circle graph (colored) of the air we breath
Draw a circle graph (colored) of the air we exhale
Biology:
We spent the majority of time going through Module #5. We did some group time making cards and spent the last minutes spending the game Taboo with the cards we had made. There is alot of information coming fast. We need to get these new words in our heads. Hopefully, this will help cement this new vocabulary.
HOMEWORK:
Monday - Read pgs. 146-150. Draw the chemical formula and the structural formula for glucose and fructose (pg. 149). Tell me how they are similar and how they are different.
Tuesday - Read pgs. 151-158. Complete Study Guide (pg. 164) #15-21
Wednesday - Read 159-161. Complete Study Guide (ph. 164) # 22-24.
Thursday - Draw DNA, Read experiment 5.2 (pg. 157) Ready to complete this on Friday.

Breaking Water Molecules and Reading the Whole Bible on the Microscope
Physical Science-Middle School
Great second week of Physical Science! First thing we completed a five point quiz-great job!! Next we collected homework and then jumped into reviewing some measuring. We also introduced unit conversions in the metric system. Our lab time was spent in breaking up water molecules. We took insulated copper wire (Copper which is an element) hooked it up to a 9V battery and inserted both ends into water/baking soda mixture. The electricity from the battery broke up the water molecule into its two elements Hydrogen and Oxygen.
HOMEWORK:
Mon. Finish the worksheet Kilometer Ruler
Mon. Finish the worksheet Kilometer Ruler
Tues. Finish the worksheet Meter Measure #4 ONLY (use your meter tape you made in class)
Complete worksheet labeled Using the Correct Units (refer to your notes!!)
Wed. Read pages 27-34 Complete On Your Own pg 29 2.1 & 2.2 and pg. 33 2.3 & 2.4
Thurs. Read Experiment 2.1, 2.2 and 2.3 Draw a picture of what the setup would look like for
each experiment. ( You can pick one step in the experiment and draw this picture)
Biology: High School
Biology we started class with a great quiz! Handed in homework. Had a brief discussion of the scientific method and hand washing compared to what is found in Numbers 19. The rest of the time in class we focused on introducing the microscope. We completed two labs to familiarize ourselves with the function of a microscope. I have a slide that has the entire Bible. The students really enjoyed finding their favorite verse on the slide.
YOU NEED A POTATO FOR THURSDAY!!!!
HOMEWORK:
MON. Complete the worksheet handed out in class labeling the parts of a microscope.
(Maddie and Jacob-look up a microscope online and write on a piece of paper the different parts and what they do.)
TUES. Read pgs 129-136(top). Complete Study Guide pg 164 # 1 a-d, 2-8
WED. Read pgs. 136-146(top). Complete Study Guide #9-14. #1 e-q
THURS. Complete Experiment 5.1 Page 138. Please write a sentence for each of the following:
Procedure, Hypothesis, Set-up, Results (probably will need more than one sentence),
Conclusion

One down 23 to go!!
MIDDLE SCHOOL
Enjoyable first day of science. We packed alot into our hour and twenty minutes! Our first order of business was to set up our notebooks (great job-everyone had their notebooks!!). I gave each student a syllabus for the coming school. Parents please look at these. This is a tentative schedule of the coming year. I say tentative because somethings will take longer then others. We started with measuring and for some this was a newer concept, therefore we will also spend week 2 on measuring and becoming comfortable with a ruler.
The majority of discussion was spent on discussing the metric vs. the English system. We also introduced atoms, molecules, elements and the periodic table of elements.
HOMEWORK:
Mon. Read pgs. 1-7 including the exp. 1.1 (we will complete Fri.)
Complete # 1-5 from the study guide on page 25
Tue. Read pgs. 8-top of 12(stop at converting b/t units)
Complete #6-10 (#10 extra credit) from study guide on page 25
Wed. In your own words tell me what greenhouse effect is.
In your own words tell me what global warming is.
(If you haven't heard of these terms simply state you do not have any idea. Please do not research these things. Simply tell me what you think they mean in COMPLETE SENTENCES.)
Thur. Complete the worksheet Measuring Length pg 5 (worksheet was handed out in class should be placed under homework tab)
Study for quiz (5 point over notes and measuring)
HIGH SCHOOL
What a great introduction to Biology! We started the time organizing our notebooks. Then we had a short get to know you quiz. Our time was then divided between lecture and a scientific method lab. Introduction to classification and the Biological key. Next week I will provide you with a syllabus. There is talk of meeting past our 24 weeks so that we could finish more of the text-we will discuss this in February.
HOMEWORK:
Mon. Read pgs. 1-1st half of 9(up to The scientific method)
Complete Study Guide pg. 35 #1 a-m, 2-4
Tue. Read pgs. 9-29(up to The microscope)
Compete Study Guide pg. 35 #1 n-y
Wed. Finish Exp. 1.1 pg 26 Using a Biological Key
Thur. Read pgs. 29-32
Study for quiz
Complete Study Guide pg 35 # 5-13
See you Friday!! Please call or email with questions. There is a place to post comments or questions on the blog I will try to check this often. Have a super weekend. Stay dry

New School Year!!
Hey all!! It was great to meet everyone yesterday at the team building day. I am excited for the upcoming school year. There is no homework yet:) Please bring your textbook, a notebook (1/2"-2" binder) with notebook paper inside, and a utensil. Looking forward to starting this year of science with each of you.
For those new to the blog:
A synopsis of the class will be posted along with homework assignments. I post these over the weekend. Now that we have two classes I will post them together with different headings please refer to your class. Please feel free to email or call with questions or comments. Also, reminder from last year please keep your posts academically related we are not trying to win any rewards for number of comments. The best way to reach me is email and I will gladly get back with you. More information to follow tomorrow. (rstyler2@juno.com, 786-2654)
