HOMEWORK:
Monday: finish worksheet page 44 & complete page 46
Tuesday: Research the German passenger airship the Hindenburg. Write a paragraph and include the following:
1. What kind of gas was the ship made of.
2. What happened to the ship. Why?
3. What kind of gas is used today in blimps?
Wednesday/Thursday: Make a "periodic table" of the fruits listed below. Use the characteristics of the fruits to organize them into rows and columns. After your table is complete, write a brief explanation telling how it is organized.
lemon, grape, pear, plum, grapefruit, cherry, banana, coconut, watermelon, honeydew melon, mango, raspberry, blueberry, apple, avocado, tangerine, orange, clementine, strawberry, nectarine, peach, lime, and cranberry
Class synopsis:
We discussed the purpose of the periodic table. The reason for the organization was explained we then began to dig into each group. The first group is the alkali metals. This group is very unstable. Sodium (Na) is located in this group. We talked how salt (NaCl) is used to lower the freezing point of water. During lab time we measured the temperature of water and watched the temperature lower as we added salt. Then we hypothesised what would happen if we added different substances. Great time to apply all the salt on the roads!!
