Homework:
Monday/Tuesday- Complete the element scavenger hunt worksheet. Enjoy this fun activity getting to know the elements!!
Wednesday/Thursday- Find the chemical formula for 10 household items and tell me how many atoms are in each molecule.
Example: water = H2O Therefore in one molecule of water you would have:
Hydrogen = 2 & Oxygen = 1
Look for common household ingredients like baking soda, ammonia, bleach, etc. research their chemical formula.
Class Recap:
Parents we spent most of the day solidifying the ideas presented so far. There are a number of students that have completely caught on to the new chemistry, others I felt needed some reinforcement. We went over the homework and then I briefly introduced taking a molecule and breaking it down into how many atoms are in each molecule. This is a fairly easy process. I am hoping that the homework activity, which the students look around the house, they will see the relation chemistry has in everyday life. My plan is to send home a test this next week. We will follow the same procedure as previous. I will also send home grades thus far. Please feel free to keep the lines of communication open. Love to hear comments and suggestions.
